{"id":610,"date":"2009-10-08T19:32:01","date_gmt":"2009-10-08T12:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adityo.blog.binusian.org\/?p=610"},"modified":"2009-10-22T17:46:52","modified_gmt":"2009-10-22T10:46:52","slug":"how-to-connect-windows-sharing-from-ubuntu-centos-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adityo.blog.binusian.org\/?p=610","title":{"rendered":"how to connect windows sharing from Ubuntu \/ CentOS Server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reason i make this article is because i want to connect windows sharing folder and i need to copy my backup to windows SAN storage, you need samba to connect<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/adityo.blog.binusian.org\/files\/2009\/10\/logo-samba.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-611\" title=\"logo-samba\" src=\"http:\/\/adityo.blog.binusian.org\/files\/2009\/10\/logo-samba.gif\" alt=\"logo-samba\" width=\"300\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<h2>What is SAMBA ?<\/h2>\n<p>Samba is the standard Windows interoperability suite of programs   for Linux and Unix.<\/p>\n<p>Samba is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnu.org\/philosophy\/free-sw.html\">Free     Software<\/a> licensed under the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samba.org\/samba\/docs\/GPL.html\">GNU     General Public License<\/a>, the Samba project is a member of the   <a href=\"http:\/\/conservancy.softwarefreedom.org\/\">Software Freedom     Conservancy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samba.org\/samba\/docs\/10years.html\">1992<\/a>, Samba has provided secure, stable and fast file and print services for <em>all<\/em> clients using the SMB\/CIFS protocol, such as all versions of DOS and Windows, OS\/2, Linux and many others.<\/p>\n<p>Samba is an important component to seamlessly integrate Linux\/Unix Servers and Desktops into Active Directory environments using the winbind daemon.<\/p>\n<p>Okay let&#8217;s start the connection .<\/p>\n<p>First, you need to install samba first<\/p>\n<p>on Ubuntu<\/p>\n<p># apt-get install\u00a0samba smbfs<\/p>\n<p>on CentOS<\/p>\n<p># yum install\u00a0samba samba-client<\/p>\n<p>Then to make it easier, edit your <code>\/etc\/hosts<\/code> file and give the Windows machine a name:<\/p>\n<p>#vim\u00a0\/etc\/hosts<\/p>\n<p>10.21.21.105 \u00a0storage.test.com \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 storage<\/p>\n<p>Create a directory where the share will appear on your local filesystem.<\/p>\n<p># mkdir \/mnt\/storage<\/p>\n<p>Edit <code>\/etc\/fstab<\/code> and add a line for the mount. Here \u201cstorage\u201d is the name of the machine and \u201cbackuplinux$\u201d is the name of the share.<\/p>\n<p># vim \/etc\/fstab<\/p>\n<p>\/\/storage\\backuplinux$ \/mnt\/storage cifs exec,credentials=\/etc\/cifspw 0 0<\/p>\n<p>Create a password file <code>\/etc\/cifspw<\/code> with the login credentials for your Windows account.<\/p>\n<p># vim\u00a0\/etc\/cifspw<\/p>\n<p>username=storage\/backuplinux<\/p>\n<p>password=passwrod<\/p>\n<p>And secure the file:<\/p>\n<pre># chmod 600 \/etc\/cifspw<\/pre>\n<p>Then the last thing<\/p>\n<p>mount -a<\/p>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<p>mount \/mnt\/storage<\/p>\n<p>Now you copy the backup to \/mnt\/storage<\/li>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The reason i make this article is because i want to connect windows sharing folder and i need to copy my backup to windows SAN storage, you need samba to connect What is SAMBA ?
